Why menstruation matters

Reclaiming my menstruation cycle has been a way of reclaiming my body and womb magic.

I’ve noticed that being in tune with my menstruation cycle is to be in tune with renewal, balance, death, birth, endings and beginnings. To connect with our mother, earth.

It’s a daily challenge to slow down and live within the planet, in rhythm, instead of numbly submitting to a hyper-stimulated tech-heavy world. To use my cycle to do this matters.

I have realized that winding down as I approach my period, then taking a good rest to bleed is fierce anti-capitalist work. Since the summer of Uprisings, it’s also informed how I must continue to dismantle white supremacy, and of course the patriarchy. Using my cycle wisdom to do this matters.

The awareness that it takes work, and time (mostly preparation), to rest during my menstruation was a profound awakening. Profound because so simple an idea. Profound because when I do rest during my bleed, I have the same spiritual connection experienced in a ten-day vipassana. Transcending the human plane, going through the period portal into otherworldly realms, is powerful. This is why menstruation matters. No biggie.
